Dynamic Learning (Home/Student Edition) Help

There are currently three versions of Dynamic Learning – Home (formerly "Student"), Network and Demo.

 

 

The Home Edition

You have probably reached this page because you're using the Home (formerly "Student") Edition. The Home/Student Edition:
 

  • Has been designed, and is licensed, only for use by individual students at home and must not be used within schools or other educational establishments.
  • Requires a broadband Internet connection as it downloads all the content from our servers.
  • Is given away as a free addendum to the equivalent printed book and is not available separately.  However, if you have purchased copies of books containing Dynamic Learning Home Edition discs and any of the supplied discs have been damaged, you can request replacement copies by contacting educationenquiries@hodder.co.uk.  
  • Can import “lessons” created in the Network Edition as “My Work”.

 

Typically, the Home Edition will contain a greatly reduced subset of the resources available on the Network Edition discs.

The Network Edition

A Network Edition of almost all Home Edition titles is, or will become, available. The Network Edition:

 

  • Comes with a full site licence.
  • Does not require an Internet connection in order to function, as all of the resources are included on the disc.
  • Contains functionality, like the Lesson Builder, which does not exist in the Home version. Lessons created in the Lesson Builder can be imported into the equivalent Home Edition title.
  • Has two levels of login – Teacher and Student.
  • Has the capability of exporting the resources to pre-tagged SCORM packs for importing into your VLE.

  • Can be requested on approval (by contacting educationenquiries@hodder.co.uk) and evaluated from the disc, but requires a code in order to be installed. The code is available from dynamiclearningsales@hodder.co.uk upon proof of purchase.

 

Typically, the Network Edition will contain many times the number of resources available on the Home Edition discs. Certain titles, such as the ICT InteraCT series, contain an additional feature, the Assessment Engine – a database which allows interactive tests to be set and marked.

 


Dynamic Learning demos

A demo of most Dynamic Learning titles is available here or on disc. The demo versions:

 

  • Have been designed, and are licensed, for demonstration purposes only.
  • Use the Network Edition of the Dynamic Learning Engine.
  • Do not require an Internet connection.
  • Contain only a few resources. The full, Network Edition will contain many more.
  • Will run from the CD. 

 


Home Edition technical help

If Dynamic Learning cannot connect to the Internet, extra configuration of your security software may be required. Please ensure that your firewall allows both the applications, “Start DL Home” (or “Start DL Student”) and “DL Student”, to access the following domains. Not all are web sites so a “Page not found” error is not relevant:

All connections are via HTTP Port 80. It is not possible to configure Dynamic Learning to use a proxy server or a different port. It is unlikely that you will be able to use the Home Edition within your school; neither are you licensed to do so.
