How to replace the 'GCSE first lesson' sample lesson file in AQA Business for GCSE - Setting up a Business
Overview
The sample lesson templates are part of the title folder. When the program is first started, they are copied to each user's own data area. (This allows all users to modify or delete the sample lessons without affecting the template, or other users.) However, this is only done once: if a user deletes a sample lesson it is not automatically replaced.
To replace the sample lesson file you must first replace the "template" in the title folder. You must then ensure each user's copy is updated. You can do this from within Dynamic Learning, or by editing a hidden folder.
Step 1: replace the template file
- Download the replacement lesson file (GCSE First lesson.zip, 2kb).
- Unzip the file and extract the GCSE First lesson.lsn file.
- Navigate to where the title is installed and find the Data\homedata\Lessons\Sample Lessons folder. On Windows, by default it's here:
C:\Program Files\Hodder Education\Dynamic Learning\Setting up a Business - AQA GCSE\Data\homedata\Lessons\Sample Lessons
On a Mac it is in a similar location, probably in your Applications folder.
- Replace the GCSE First lesson.lsn in the Sample Lessons folder with the one you have just downloaded and extracted.
This will ensure that new users of the program receive the correct version of the file.
Step 2: update each user's copy of the file using DL
- Download the zipped version of the lesson (GCSE First lesson.zip, 2kb) and make it available to all users.
- Ask all users to open DL and use the dustbin icon to delete the existing lesson.
- Ask all users to import the replacement lesson to the Sample Lessons folder using the "Import lesson" icon in the Lesson Builder.
Each person who’s already used the program will have to do this individually.
A third option would be for the administrator (after performing Step 1) to delete each user’s copy of the Sample Lessons folder in each user's own, hidden, Dynamic Learning DO NOT EDIT folder. When the users next launch DL the folder will be recreated and the updated version of the lesson will be copied across.
On a PC the folder to delete is, by default, here:
My Documents\Dynamic Learning DO NOT EDIT\AQA Business for GCSE - Setting up a Business\Lessons\Sample Lessons
However, this folder is invisible by default, so you may need to make sure you have “Show hidden files and folders” checked in Windows' Folder Options.
On a Mac, the equivalent folder is not invisible and is located at:
Documents\Dynamic Learning DO NOT EDIT\AQA Business for GCSE - Setting up a Business\Lessons\Sample Lessons
If you choose this option please exercise caution as deleting the wrong folder could have unforseen consequences. It may be a good idea to make a backup first.
