Student/Home Edition Mac help

Dynamic Learning (Student Edition) is unfortunately not currently compatible with Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard), OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) and OS 10.7 (Lion). It will, however, function correctly on 10.4 (Tiger).

The disc-based version of Dynamic Learning was authored in Macromedia Director, and uses several third-party add-ins ("Xtras") to perform the downloading, unzipping and installing of content.  The key Xtra responsible for downloading has not yet been updated to work with Leopard or Snow Leopard, so the program can't download any content from our servers and will display an error message.

Our developers have liaised with the developers of the problematic Xtra, but unfortunately there is as yet no sign that they will update it.

A Home Standalone Edition of your title, requiring no internet connection and therefore compatible with Leopard and Snow Leopard, may also be available – please check here or contact us.  (Make sure you specify which title you have and your address.)

Unfortunately Apple's latest OS, Lion, released in July 2011, drops support for PowerPC code.  All disc-based Mac versions of Dynamic Learning, including the Home Standalone Editions, use only PowerPC code, so will not work on Lion.

If you have PC-emulation software, uch as Parallels or VMWare Fusion, on your Mac, you should find that the Windows version of the program will work instead.

In addition, the resources from most Home/Student Edition titles have been made available online.  Please contact us, with the name of the title you are interested in, for details

Note that the Student Edition has been designed and is licensed for home use only.  It is unlikely to work in a school or college environment as educational establishments typically employ a proxy server, which is incompatible with the program.

A Network Edition of most titles is available for use within educational establishments: the Network Edition doesn't require an Internet connection, and is compatible with Leopard and Snow Leopard.  Please see our FAQ for details.
