Connecting Science is a new enquiry-based course with built-in flexibility to enable personalised learning.
At its heart are interactive resources that can be presented on-screen from the the Dynamic Learning network CD-ROM.
The CD-ROM screens are topic-based, matching the the topics in the Connecting Science Pupil Guide and Teacher's Guides.
A resource menu lists the digital resources provided for each topic (Core and Options lessons).
The relevant Teacher's Guide page can also be opened, providing lesson plans with learning objectives and levelled outcomes for each topic.
Each Teacher's Guide presents Core Lessons and a choice of Options (further activities) for each topic.
A choice of Options for each topic provides opportunities to further develop particular enquiry skills or to motivate different learners.
The network CD-ROM also gives access to resources that:
- provide background information and stimulus images in a variety of formats
- support pupils in planning open-ended enquiry or research
- show how to think scientifically, analyse and communicate result
- animate concepts which are hard to visualise
- review pupils’ progress through interactive activities and independent or group tasks
- encourage pupils to assess their own progress
To help planning for personalised learning, teachers will also be able to search for resources by keyword, topic and resource type. Flexibility of choice allows teachers to:
- select relevant contexts for their school
- vary task style to meet the individual needs of predominantly visual, audio or kinaesthetic learners
- customise and adapt schemes of work to suit different teaching styles and levels of experience
